Pinsetters of Florida: History
It was a dream of the founder and organizer, Richardeen (Ricki) Jones. With her insight, she could see that participation in tournaments and leagues for black women bowlers in the Orlando area left much to be desired.
Having recently moved here from Southwest Florida, she talked to other women bowlers at various bowling alleys in the area and formed a team for participation in the State Tournament in Pensacola, Florida.
After the tournament, she forged ahead with her energetic talents to build an organization of black women bowlers for team participation in local, state, regional, and national competition.
In 1985, she formed the organization with (10) ten charter members. Today, we are proud to say that we are still an active organization with some of the original members still a part of the organization.
TODAY, MEMBERSHIP IS NOT LIMITED TO BLACK BOWLERS ONLY, WE WELCOME ALL WOMEN BOWLERS.
In 1989, with a membership of 12 (twelve) dedicated members, she envisioned the possibility of hosting an annual Pinsetter Tournament.

The first year was disappointing because we only had twelve teams to participate. However, this didn’t discourage us enough to abandon the

idea. We have since hosted 31 annual tournaments that are hosted the last weekend of July through the 1st weekend of August.
We have fund raisers to support local schools and organizations. We support the RAFMAN Club scholarship fund, partners in education for Orange County Schools, and Toys for Tots distributed to local area schools. We award 2 (two) scholarships to students of members of our Pinsetter’s Mixed League.
